The certification validates that six Neo QLED 8K and Neo QLED 4K models have successfully reduced their carbon footprint compared to their previous versions, as evaluated through a cradle-to-grave assessment.

Samsung is committed to expanding its sustainability initiatives, with more than 20 models expected to receive certifications this year.

Samsung Electronics has just announced that six models from its 2023 Neo QLED lineup have received the “Reducing CO2” certification from the Carbon Trust. This label is awarded to products that demonstrate a year-on-year reduction in their carbon footprint, a clear indication of Samsung’s efforts towards enhancing sustainability throughout its product lifecycle.

Executive Vice President and Deputy Head of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, Seokwoo Yong, expressed his satisfaction with the recognition of Samsung’s sustainability mission by a trusted organization. He emphasized the company’s continued commitment to creating products with the future of the planet in mind. As the world’s largest TV manufacturer, Samsung recognizes its responsibility to lead by example and leverage technology to drive positive change.

The Carbon Trust, a global climate consultancy founded by the UK government, calculates its carbon footprint certification by evaluating the amount of greenhouse gases generated throughout the entire product lifecycle, from production to disposal. Notably, the certification does not take CO2 offsets into account.

The 2023 Neo QLED models received certification for reducing their weight and power consumption during the use phase compared to their predecessors. The six certified models comprise three Neo QLED 8K and three Neo QLED 4K screens. Samsung aims to expand the scope of these efforts and expects to obtain carbon footprint certification for more than 20 models this year across its latest lineup of QLED, Crystal UHD, and OLED TVs, as well as monitors and signage products.

This isn’t the first time Samsung has received carbon footprint certification. In 2021, Neo QLED was the first screen to receive the certification among 4K and higher resolution TVs, and in the following year, 16 models across Samsung’s 2022 lineup received the certification.

As the global TV leader for the 17th consecutive year, Samsung’s Visual Display Business remains committed to introducing eco-conscious products and practices for its display products.
