MX Master 3S is a pro-grade mouse designed for coders and digital content creators.
The MX Master 3S is the latest performance mouse offered by Logitech. It’s manufactured for designers with feedback from programmers and creatives. It replaces the MX Master 3 and is the 5th generation model in the series. The Master series wireless mouse helps get work done faster and more efficiently with an upgraded magnetic fast scroll wheel, app-specific workflow customizations, and an ergonomic shape that fits the shape of the palm of your hand.
With the Logitech MX Master 3S, you get new features with an instant precision sensor and quiet clicks to allow the full potential in any work environment. Designed to deliver precision, control, and comfort for experienced users, the Logitech MX Master 3S premium mouse is an excellent mouse for use in the office or at home.
Logitech designed the USB-C wireless mouse for a very specific market that doesn’t mind paying a premium price for a premium product. It’s a Bluetooth mouse for office productivity work where practical considerations are more important than quick 360-degree mouse movements. For this purpose, it runs quietly and feels great in the hand thanks to its amazing fast scroll wheel, sculpted ergo design, and always helpful secondary thumb scroll wheel. If you experience latency issues, reposition the receiver so there is a clearer line of sight to the device or less interference from other wireless signals. Use a USB extension cable or a keyboard with a USB passthrough slot to position the receiver closer to the mouse’s location.
The Logitech MX Master 3S is a premium wireless mouse with high-end specifications, it has a usable respectable 8,000 DPI optical darkfield mouse sensor and is one of the most precise sensors that can track on almost any surface. The accurate sensor gives you smoother operation, can handle quick directional changes, and tracking on glass and other surfaces so you don’t need a mousepad and a seamless experience for your workflow in an efficient chip that uses less power than its predecessor. 8,000 is quite sensitive but can be useful when you zoom in on a very large image. Most users are comfortable with a DPI setting of 1500 to 3000.
Just like the previous versions, the Logitech MX Master 3S mouse can easily be considered the best premium wireless mouse geared towards improving the average user’s workspace productivity. However, left-handed users and people with smaller hands will need to look at other alternatives or brands.
MX Master 3S has a powerful 8,000 DPI Optical Sensor
From 4K to 8K displays and dual-monitor setups, we often push ourselves to do more, multitask, and track projects across multiple workspaces. The MX Master 3S’ optical sensor supports a wider range of sensitivity than before (50 dpi increments), ensuring you don’t have to use your entire desk to move the mouse for a dual 4K setup, you just need to adjust the sensitivity on the mouse.
Aside from the sharper sensor, the only other major feature change from the MX Master 3S wireless mouse is that clicks are now virtually silent — 90 percent quieter, according to Logitech, and barely audible unless you put your ear close to the wireless mouse. The keys also feel softer with some dampening. So if you like a firm tactile response, you might prefer the previous generation MX Master 3, which is still available on select sites.
The sensor can go from 200 up to 8,000 DPI (in 50 DPI increments), double the 4,000 DPI of the MX Master 3. The wireless mouse defaults to 1,000 Dots per inch sensitivity so you need to go into the Logi Options+ software application if you want to change the number. I find 3,000 is a nice spot for productivity but you may prefer higher if you are looking at large images and need to whip around them quite quickly. Logi Options Plus is the latest software from Logitech that can help you customize the Bluetooth wireless mouse and use it to its full potential.
There is also an enterprise version of the mouse which is the same model except for wholesale packaging. It performed great when connected via the Logi Bolt USB receiver. Logitech claims a 10-meter range for congested spaces, depending on other devices in the area and how the receiver is placed on the computer. For best performance, place the receiver within 2 feet of the wireless mouse.
One of the biggest improvements introduced in the updated mouse is its 8,000 DPI optical mouse sensor, which allows users working on high-resolution displays to take advantage of the increased precision tracking. However, most users are not likely to benefit from this feature as most users prefer a sensitivity between 1,000 and 3,000. Logitech G series mice have sensors that go to 25,000K, which is insane for anyone to be able to control and be this precise using a wireless mouse.
MX Master 3S comes with a Wireless USB Receiver
The MX Master 3S also sets a high bar for wireless performance. It can use either a low-power Bluetooth connection or the included Logi Bolt USB receiver. The receiver plugs into (and barely sticks out of) a Type-A USB port to provide a direct 2.4GHz link that, like Logitech’s older Unifying receiver, also works with the latest MX keyboards.
Alongside the new and improved mouse sensor, the MX Master 3S has seen some notable benefits to its connectivity. While the seamless switching between three separate connected devices remains the same, the method of connection has changed somewhat. For its wireless receiver, the MX Master 3S uses Logitech’s new Bolt receiver. With this, you’re getting a much lower chance of any interference traditionally associated with RF connectivity, as the Bolt receiver works via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), and makes it a more secure computing device.
Carrying multi-platform compatibility and trusted wireless connections—even in congested wireless environments with many other wireless devices on the 2.4GHz band. The wireless mouse is fully encrypted and FIPS secure when paired with a Logi Bolt USB receiver. Logi Bolt wireless products will not currently pair with other Logitech USB Unifying receivers.
The MX Master 3S works on a rechargeable battery, it comes with a built-in Lithium-ion battery that lasts as long as 2 1/2 months on a full charge. This is approximately 70 days of usage at 8 hours per day, which also means all you have to recharge is 4-5 times a year to use the mouse. Usually, wireless mice last longer than expected unless you are using them for gaming, the MX Master 3S can last more than 70 days in certain cases, depending on your mouse usage and usage patterns. For power users, expect to charge your wireless mouse every 2 weeks. This is a small inconvenience to pay for the added performance.
MX Master 3S can connect via Bluetooth (BLE) as well as the Logi Bolt USB Receiver and is compatible with all major operating systems like Windows 10/11, Chrome OS, macOS, or Linux, it doesn’t need any additional software or drivers to operate, and is plug and play. You can even use it for your smart TVs or tablets. For the best experience, it is recommended to install the Logitech Options software for full customization. Unfortunately, the Logi bolt receiver is not backward compatible with Unifying devices. You will need to have an extra USB port if you are still using a Unifying keyboard.
Bluetooth (BLE) has the advantage of not requiring any PC-side hardware and being compatible with devices that don’t include USB-A ports, like many recent MacBooks and other ultra-thin laptops. A future iteration of the MX Master series mice will most likely come with a USB-C receiver as laptops start to gain more of these ports.
